quadraticFlow

Flow through a quadratic resistance (m_flow_nominal at dp_nominal), regularized below deltaMm_flow_nominal*

FastSmoothBuildings.Utilities.quadraticFlow, function (source)

Purpose

Mass flow rate through a quadratic flow resistance, Δp = Δpnom (ṁ/ṁnom)2, regularised at small flows so that it is infinitely differentiable.

Equations

ṁ = ṁnom/√Δpnom · Δp / (Δp2 + (δm2 Δpnom)2)1/4,   δm = deltaM.

For |Δp| >> δm2 Δpnom, the pressure drop of the flow δm ṁnom, the flow tends to sign(Δp) ṁnom √(|Δp|/Δpnom); near Δp = 0 it is linear, ṁ ≈ ṁnom Δp / (δm Δpnom). Odd in Δp, C-infinity for δm > 0.

Use

deltaM = 0.1 by default. The boiler computes the flows of its outlets with it when the flows are pressure-driven.
